HOUSTON (Feb. 2005) – Out of 1,500 innovative products, Silestone® by Cosentino with built-in Microban antimicrobial product protection, recently garnered the coveted Platinum ADEX Award (Awards for Design Excellence) the most prestigious awards program in the design industry.

Silestone is the first and only natural quartz surfacing engineered with Microban antimicrobial protection which provides a proven deterrent to the growth of bacteria that can cause stains, odors and product deterioration. Microban technology is not designed to protect users against foodborne illness or replace the need for good hygiene. However, under the right conditions, such those frequently found in kitchens and bathroom microbes can double in number every 20 minutes on an untreated surface. Microban protection works continuously between cleanings to keep Silestone kitchen countertops and bathroom vanity surfaces cleaner. And unlike surface applied coatings, Silestone incorporates Microban protection into the molecular structure of the product during the manufacturing process so it won’t wash off or wear for continuous protection that lasts the life of the product. Silestone will begin rolling out colors with Microban protection in summer 2005.

ADEX judges are among the best in their respective areas of expertise and so the ADEX Award represents the best product designs of the year in the opinion of those who reside at the top of their specialty.

Each category has potential for three award levels of platinum, gold or silver. Judges award points in several categories for each entry. Total points earned determine each product’s score. Winners are published each April in Design Journal.

HOUSTON (May 10) – Cosentino introduces a new series of luxurious natural quartz with an exclusive texture—Silestone Leather. Silestone’s leather finish is the result of a patent-pending process that delivers a unique sensory experience.

Silestone’s new leather finish brings an additional richness and luxury to Silestone surfacing for the kitchen, bath or any other room. In addition, the leather series will also include built-in Microban® antimicrobial protection to inhibit the growth of microbes such as bacteria, mold and mildew that can cause odors. Silestone is the only countertop in the world with Microban built-in antimicrobial protection, taking cleanliness to the next level.

Silestone leather is offered in select Silestone colors ranging from conservative hues like Beige Olimpo and Tebas Black to more daring ones such as Red Eros and Cobalt Blue.

In addition to existing colors, Silestone is complimenting its leather series with a new color line, the River Series. New Silestone River Series colors include Grey Amazon, a slate gray with light grey shadowing; Yellow Nile, buttercream background with chocolate colored outlines; Santa Fe Brown, a creamy caramel color with rich brown swirls and Senora Gold a radiant gold with tan undertones.
